Our latest artist interview: Beth-Emily

Where are you based? How would you describe your studio?
I'm in a state of hiatus at the moment as I'm currently
packing up my home and practice and relocating to Melbourne. It's been a hard
decision as for the past three years I've been based in an amazing attic studio
overlooking the waterfront in Salamanca, Hobart. But my plans to move interstate meant that I
had to let go of my studio and work from home, which I have to say, I'm not
very keen on anymore. My home studio is very messy at the moment as I'm packing
so no decorations, just boxes and the essentials. I can't wait to get setup again somewhere
fresh and new.
What are you currently working on?
At the moment I've been working on a broad range of
commission projects, one involving the translation of a historical
colonial/aboriginal portrait. However, in the new year, I'm making a concerted
effort to work on a few of my own personal creative projects, some of which are
collaborations with other like-minded creatives.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
The natural world, it's a wealth of inspiration and
beautiful in so many ways.
I'm constantly exploring my connection to it, but I'm also
inspired by cultural traditions both old and new.
Can you tell us if there is a story behind one (or more) of
your artworks published by La La Land?
I'm a collector and documenter of natural things. So many of
the feathers that you'll see in my images are ones that I own.

If you were an animal/colour/object - what would you be?
I'd be a cat belonging to a loving family: treats, head rubs
and sleeping in the sun (who wouldn't.)
