Elise Maree
For as long as she can remember, Elise Maree
Trickey has been a collector, a re-maker, and a re-inventer of the things her
eyes have captured and stored away in her memory. And it is from her collection
of treasures and memories that her art springs forth: she is consumed by the
process and product of translating her imagination to reality. If she could,
Elise would live in far away lands filled with giggles and hiccups, magic
carpets and sail boats by the sea. She would travel by hot air balloon, guided by
professors with curly mustaches and pockets filled with golden coins,
kaleidoscopes and little fob watches. She would frequent the traveling circus
(which always seemed to be be in town) with twirling staircases and giants that
like to hold hands. This is the world in which she dreams, circling in her head
like a merry-go-round, and it is the world she would like to you visit when you
come across her creations.
She effortlessly juxtaposes bold and delicate
colours, textures and images as characters and stories dance and swirl into
existence. And while she deals in the whimsical and the unseen, her work tells
stories that viewers often find themselves in, even when they're not at the
circus.
Elise studied at the School of Creative Arts
Oxford Falls in Sydney, Australia where she was born and
raised. She now resides in Alberta, Canada,
where she continues to playfully document her world and her adventures with
water-colour, ink and paper assemblage.
